In Early July of 2004 we went to the resort of Malia which is the liveliest part of Crete, one of the Greek isles. We departed on the 29th July from Newcastle airport looking forward to 2 weeks in the sun. Unfortunately a delay of 6 hours at the airport put a small downer on flying out, but as you will see in the pictures we soon made up for it.
We stopped in the Odyssey apartments, which again proved to be a good hotel. Its not far from the beach or the nightlife and we got on great with Bill the security guard which worked in our advantage of having a great laugh.
The beach was again nice with plenty of water sports and sun loungers all over the place, only problem was the sticking R & B cd which was played over and over and over and over .. You get the idea! Weather was great, sometimes too hot to sit in so we had to find a pub to cool down in!
The pubs and clubs were tremendous with plenty of drink offers and fishbowls. Pubs like the Newcastle bar (of course we had to visit there!) Cosmos, Roadhouse and Cloud 9 were some of our favorites. Then onto the clubbing in places like club UK, Cheeky ½ and Malibu. Pub street and club street are right next to each other, so not far to travel for another drink (thank god). Then after clubbing onto Petrinos the 24-hour bar to keep the alcohol levels high. The only problem was every time the local police drove past the music was turned down.
The "one fucking Euro" man selling kebabs for "one fucking Euro" was a good laugh. Anyone who´s been to Malia will know who we are on about. Hammers Verdict: All in all a great holiday in a great resort.
